We currently have an opening for a Transportation Planning Technologist in our Niagara-on-the-Lake office located at:

Working with a dynamic team in a collaborative work environment, the Transportation Planning Technologist will be based out of Niagara-on-the-Lake but may be expected to collaborate with staff in our offices in Markham and Kitchener on occasion as well as staff in our Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. offices from time to time. Reporting directly to the Manager, MTO Group, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects and develop their skillset within the field of transportation planning/traffic engineering.
Responsibilities include the following:
Performing traffic analysis in support of municipal class and transportation environmental assessments; transportation design; intersection operational analyses; in-service road safety reviews and/or roadside safety assessments; railway safety, parking studies, traffic impact studies, geometric design for minor road improvements, signage and pavement marking assessments, traffic management planning and design; and truck route assessments.
Providing support on projects with public and private sector clients, while working alongside Engineers, Planners, Technologists, Technicians, and support staff.
Engaging in a collaborative work environment with your team, as well as other disciplines and offices.
Providing support to other members of the team.
Performing other duties as required by the Manager or supervisor.
Complying and working within COR certified environment and performing all duties in accordance with those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation.
What you will bring to the table:
Transportation Engineering Technology Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution or a combination of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma and relevant experience.
Designation as either a C.Tech. or C.E.T. with OACETT is an asset.
2 – 5 years’ experience in the field of traffic engineering/transportation planning.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Skilled at analyzing and solving problems with and without supervision.
Fosters a positive attitude with commitment to working as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
Working knowledge and experience utilizing specialized traffic engineering software in one or more of the following: Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, PTV Vissim, Vistro and Visum, Arcady, and Sidra.
Working knowledge and experience utilizing drafting and design software such as: AutoCAD, Civil3D, and AutoDesk Vehicle Tracking (AVT) or AutoTURN by TransSoft Solutions.
Applied skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data management systems such as Microsoft Access or SQL is an asset.
Experience in cost estimating, contract document preparation, contract administration, and construction inspection is an asset.
Experience on projects specifically with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario is an asset.
Class G License and full-time access to your own vehicle. Ability to travel within Ontario to conduct site surveys and field investigations.
