At BAE Systems, we are committed to improving sustainability both directly and indirectly with customers and suppliers, providing a ‘whole-stack’ carbon & energy offer and we currently have a vacancy for a Sustainable Energy Technologist in Portsmouth.
As a Sustainable Energy Technologist, you will be involved in the Research & Development of new products for both the land and maritime markets while also supporting our customers explore the innovative application of emerging technologies. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to join our expanding technical consultancy team, providing technical leadership and idea generations, working across a diverse portfolio from carbon profiling and strategy, infrastructure solution development (e.g.
SMART grids, Solar PV, LCHN, battery storage) and project delivery support to helping our wider engineer team optimise maritime systems, products and platforms on the NZC road map. Your main responsibilities as a Sustainable Energy Technologist will involve:
Working with customers to understand their carbon profile and develop their NZC roadmap Support research and development activity on SMART Grids, energy storage, alternative fuels and waste energy recovery. Identify early Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies for exploration and potential application Business case development with business Return on Investment assessment Providing cross-discipline expertise and oversight of concept and design development Design management and integration of sub-contractor products, systems and solutions Analysing, defining, evaluating, planning and delivering solutions to assigned engineering activity to meet programme, business and customer requirements Providing discipline expertise input to policy and strategy development within the IBP Ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and other requirements Your skills and qualifications as a Sustainable Energy Technologist:
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Engineering Experience in early Technology Readiness Level (TRL) phases/ research and development Comprehensive knowledge of emerging energy technologies Extensive experience in the application of energy technologies Understanding of design integrity and safety for products, services or sub-assemblies of low value, technical complexity and commercial risk Desirable:
Chartered Engineer or willingness to achieve
Experience workingacross multiple engineering disciplines
Experience workingwith new or emerging energy such as Hydrogen Experience in managing Intellectual Property and Patent applications What we’re looking for in you:
