Job Description

What will you do day to day? The Head of Sustainability is a key, client-facing role embedded within a strategic client account. In this role you will:

Be fully conversant with the client’s sustainability and responsible business vision, strategy, commitments, measures, targets, achievements, and challenges;

Be accountable for ensuring all mandatory and voluntary environmental compliance and ESG reporting obligations for the client are fulfilled;

Be responsible for ensuring contracted services are delivered to exceptional standards, delivering to time and quality, and exceeding client expectations wherever possible;

Be responsible for ensuring sustainability capabilities across Mitie are identified and applied to drive and enhance sustainability opportunities across the entire service delivery;

Form and maintain direct, active relationships with the client’s sustainability, carbon, and energy leads; distinguish what success looks like and communicate the client’s ambitions to the wider Mitie service delivery and account teams;

Manage one direct report; actively leading, coaching, motivating, and supporting development, through robust performance management

Ensure provision of quality, focussed management information and reporting on various aspects of sustainability performance, including ensuring robust tracking and reporting of progress against the client’s environmental and sustainability targets is maintained and enhanced according to client requirements

Provide sustainability & carbon strategy insight to support the development, approval, and delivery of Plan Zero projects; and help the client evolve its sustainability strategy, targets, and programmes

Oversee and manage development, implementation, and continuous improvement of robust internal governance processes to ensure clear ownership of all sustainable contractual commitments, with defined roles and responsibilities and ensure communication of action plans and timelines to the client

Ensure support is provided (where required) for service delivery action plans focussed on sustainability KPIs including climate change, supplier collaboration, people empowerment and community investment / social value strategies

Experience in environmental, energy and carbon compliance will be required, with an understanding of the following mandatory and voluntary reporting requirements:
• ESOS, SECR and general carbon reporting
• Carbon Trust Standard
• EPBD – MEES / EPC / DEC / TM44
• Energy / environmental management systems (ISO
50001 / ISO
14001)
This role requires experience in sustainability, energy, and carbon reduction strategies with responsibilities for supporting net zero decarbonisation plans. The role will be responsible for delivering on proposals that provide a clear pathway to invest in low carbon technology projects that enable our clients to go harder and faster in their carbon reduction ambitions.
