Mechanical Engineer Randstad Engineering are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join TATA Steel at their site in Port Talbot. The role is initially a 6 month contract but has the scope to continue on to new projects as this one finishes. The project you will be  working on is the replacement of one of their 500 Ton Charging Cranes and has an overall budget of 20 Million.

Primary Accountabilities  To lead or form part of an engineering team able to deliver each project to a successful conclusion. The role will be mechanical- biased but may include responsibility for coordinating and controlling all engineering activities in a multi-disciplined team  or plant area. Determining factors for allocation of the engineering role this will be Experience, Project size, complexity and business risk.

To assist the Project Manager in preparing CAPEX proposals for the acquisition of physical assets advising on all project engineering aspects involving cost estimates to achieve the best commercial advantage to the business within time tables for capital  expenditure applications.  Implement procedures to define and quantify the purpose of the new plant/equipment specifying results expected and to broadly determine the size, shape, location and maintenance budget for the proposed plant/equipment, balancing capital cost and running  costs against expected profits.

Evaluate design proposals from both contractors and TATA Engineers designing out or minimising maintenance, and ensure and sound detailing to assist in maintenance planning, taking account of health and safety needs, identifying hazards and introducing  safeguards at an early stage. Essential Experience and

EducationIdeally a HND or degree (or equivalent experience) in an appropriate mechanical engineering area.  Health & Safety Qualification IOSH or equivalent  Preferable to be a Chartered Engineer  Experience in heavy industries like steel making or oil and gas  Experience in design, contract negotiation, manufacture, installation and commissioning of Plant for major capital schemes.
Previous experience in lifting equipment with application into heavy industry.  Randstad CPE values diversity and promotes equality.
