Junior Data Analyst (2020-0014) Job in Ottawa, ON at ICTC

Our Research and Policy team is looking for a Junior Data Analyst to join the team. Are you looking for a new challenge? This role would you you work in a demanding, high-energy environment that would require flexibility and challenge you you to think of innovative technical solutions when cleaning, processing, interpreting and analyzing unstructured data. Can you see yourself working with the Data Team to design and apply algorithms to extract insights from large quantities of imprecise unstructured data? Well this role may be for your then!

What will you be doing?

Utilizing statistical natural language processing to mine unstructured data, and create insights; analyze and model structured data using advanced statistical methods and implement algorithms to perform analyses.

Building document clustering, topic analysis, text classification, named entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and part-of-speech tagging methods for unstructured and semi-structured data.

Developing and perform text classification using methods such as logistic regression, decision trees and support vector machines.

Producing interactive data visualisations, including heat maps and choropleths.

Do you have the following knowledge?

2+ years’ work experience working with large complex datasets, or on big data products.

Expertise with statistical programming using Python (experience with Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib, Plotly, Gensim, etc.).

Demonstrable expertise using Python for interactive data visualization: e.g., choropleths, heat maps, time series. Proficiency with d3.js and/or Tableau is a plus.

Experience with in-depth web scraping and sentiment analysis

Familiarity with modelling ML algorithms: e.g., clustering, regularization, Bayesian inference, decision tree, etc.

What we are looking for!

Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, or Mathematics is preferred; other Bachelor’s degrees with extensive experience in the field will also be considered.

Ability to quickly learn new data tools and techniques

A self-motivated team player, comfortable working in a fast paced, exciting environment.

Ability to work collaboratively with team members and share data tools and techniques to help build ICTC’s data capabilities.
