Responsible for providing regulatory affairs support through assessing the impact of the changing regulatory environment on the business, carrying out specific pieces of research on regulatory developments, coordinating briefings, managing information holdings and managing relationships, especially with regulatory bodies and institutions.

European energy regulatory frameworks are rapidly evolving in response to ambitious climate mitigation aims and the energy transition agenda.

Through Re-imaging Energy we want to help the world reach net zero.

The role holder will support the team in managing issues arising in existing and emerging markets, covering areas such as gas, power, carbon, renewable and low carbon, hydrogen, emissions, market development.



Support specific commercial transactions and help in the formation T&S regulatory strategy, which underpins the strategic direction of our business, both existing and future.

Own key regulatory projects and lead these to completion, with appropriate support.

Interpret external market and regulatory developments and provide advice to management on impacts, including on business opportunities

Influence legislative and regulatory change in support of BP commercial activity – both directly with authorities and through industry associations through professional regulatory contacts

Work closely with commercial and functional teams, to identify areas of opportunities, develop advocacy positions and identify risks and threats.

Act as consultant across the organisation on live projects and transactions, finding innovative ways to recognise and handle regulatory risk, for instance by establishing effective processes so ensure compliance

Identify commercial opportunities through regulatory change.

Defend value in the face of adverse regulatory change.

Desirable Criteria:
Degree educated, or equivalent, with significant regulatory background working for a major industry player or regulator.

Deep knowledge of the German speaking gas and power markets

– particularly the regulatory frameworks in relation to wholesale and retail sectors of these markets, including supply to C&I end-users.

Able torecognise regulatory risks, identify and execute regulatory risk management as it pertains to gas, power, carbon, renewable and low carbon, hydrogen, emissions market development.

Experienced in interpreting large volumes of sophisticated information.

Identify commercial impacts, and communicate information in an appropriate, confident and compelling manner.

Able towork closely with other regulatory, commercial and technical specialists.

Track record in working externally with national and European regulatory and competition authorities, regulatory peers, network operators and counterparties, industry associations and academic bodies.

Well-developed commercial and/or operational skills and the ability to identify, value and prioritise key issues from a wide range of regulatory developments.
