In this role, you will provide strategic direction, safety expertise, and leadership support to Sarnia Operations team. You will be an integral member of the Refinery Leadership Team (RLT) and work collaboratively to achieve the refinery overall objectives.

You will use your expertise to:
Develop and deliver department goals and objectives that support the Sarnia Refinery business plan

Focus on strategic business improvements for the refining operations

Champion implementation and sustainment of our Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS)

Ensure operations organization is current on Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) laws and regulations and industry best practices

Drive continuous improvement in safety and fostering an inclusive and respectful culture

Support Journey to Zero performance which includes personnel safety, employee safety process, process safety and environmental compliance

Build and maintain constructive and collaborative relationships with Suncor employee bargaining association members

Develop and manage the operations budget

Conduct regular development and career discussions. Coach by clarifying performance expectations and demonstrating desired behaviors

Collaborate with the refinery leaders to identify improvement opportunities and develop plans to implement change

Create a work environment that is open, honest, high performance, challenging and motivating, yet fun with work life balance

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
15 years of operations experience, preferably in a refinery

10 or more years of leadership experience

Demonstrated competence at running a large multi-level organization

Experience managing and supervising of staff including a unionized workforce

Strong leadership and change management skills; able to act as a champion of change

Excellent communication skills and the ability to coalesce numerous factors in the analysis of competing opportunities

The ability to build trust and respectful relationships with stakeholders while collaborating on advancement opportunities

Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:
A post-secondary education

Deep knowledge of all functional aspects of operating and maintaining a refining business including EH&S, production, maintenance, reliability, and capital projects

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway

Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs

This position is safety sensitive

Relocation support will be provided
